Nylon
Nylon is one of the most popular carpet fiber. It is a good choice for all traffic areas because it’s durable, static free, maintains fiber height, and resists soiling, staining, and mildew.
Olefin (Polypropylene)
Olefin is also a popular carpet fiber (common in commercial applications). The fibers are colorfast and work best in loop carpets such as Berbers. It’s strong and very resistant to abrasion, mildew, moisture, and is simple to clean. However it can be easy to crush depending on the pile.
Polyester
Polyester is luxurious, very durable against abrasions, easy to clean, and resist to water soluble staining. Although it does not hold its fiber height under traffic and shifting weight as well as some other carpet fibers.
Recycled /P.E.T (Eco Friendly)
PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate. It’s made from recycled materials such as plastic soda bottles. It is extremely durable, water resistant, static resistant, fade resistant (from sunlight or harsh chemicals) and of course a environmentally conscience alternative.
Others
Some less common fibers with their own specific beneficial qualities and limitations include; Wool (luxurious and stain resistant). Acrylic (manmade wool fiber, less costly), Blended Fibers (typically nylon and olefin combined)
